St Kilda Adventure Playground and Skinners Adventure playground in South Melbourne are often referred to as a neighbourhood "backyards" and give children the chance to use their imagination and take risks in a safe environment. The Adventure Playgrounds are staffed and filled with climbing structures, ponds, trampolines, flying fox (St Kilda), cubbies and heaps more.

Caulfield Park - Park Crescent has an exceptional feature that is the giant slide (suitable from about two). The toddlers' section has slides, tunnels and steps for them to explore, including a Jiminy Cricket hop on. The tall web-climbing frame here would challenge older children, and the tennis practice wall near Inkerman Playground, with the nearby basketball hoop, and golf practice facility, would satisfy the sports minded members of the family.

Hays Paddock is the grand pinnacle of playgrounds; they simply don't come better than this. The playground was designed to fill the need for a play environment where disabled and able-bodied children can play together. It has been hugely successful since its creation in 1998, as proven by the busloads of children that regularly arrived from all around Melbourne.

Allnut Park is a fantastic park suitable for all age groups and abilities. This is a very large and very popular playground situated away from the roads, easily accessed by a couple of car parks. Part of the playground also has wheelchair access. Sails have recently beenplaced over a large section of the playground. Bike paths run through the park and around the playground, which is great for learners or rollerbladers.

Thomas Street Playground is a huge wooden adventure playground including swings and slides. Lots to explore for ages 3+ but also suitable for toddlers. Surrounded by trees and grass, fenced. It has BBQs, Toilets, even Pony rides on weekends!

Wattle Park, Surry Hills Wattle Park is a slice of bushland in the middle of suburbia; perhaps this is why it is so popular. Birds abound amongst the gums and wattles, and frogs and ducks are happily settled in the wetlands. Meanwhile the cricketers battle it out on the oval, the golfers tee off over the hill, and the tennis players work up a sweat just across the driveway. Wattle Park is a true family park; there is something for everyone here.

Ballam Park, Frankston This playground can get busy, and for good reason. It rocks! It's huge! In fact, the playground equipment is on two separate sites, about 100 metres apart.
There are countless slides, swings, ramps, bridges, climbing equipment etc in all shapes and sizes, and suitable for varying skill levels. And the kids are fascinated with all the nooks and crannies where a game of hide-and-seek or chasey would never go astray.

Edwards Reserve - Frog Playground An amazingly complex platform structure underpins this playground. Ramps run in several directions and children have the option of a number of slides or climbing instruments to get up or down the structure. I also like this because it is high and exciting for children yet at the same time accessible for toddlers - for whom the ramps are easily navigable.
