Fairy Park Anakie is a one hour drive from Melbourne or 25 minutes from Geelong. Set on a rock formation at the top of a hill and featuring 22 animated fairytale scenes set in beautiful manicured gardens you get the impression the park is a real labour of love.

Entry is via payment from your car about halfway up a hill after you enter the Fairy Park. Confused? It's easy once you enter the front gates. There's lots of car parking at the top.

Disneyland this is not - this quaint Victorian destination has been here since 1959 and if you're looking for something quite different in a day trip then this surely has to be it! We spent a good half a day here and topped it off with a picnic lunch and play at the incredible Camelot Playground.

Wind your way over the yellow brick road (wide enough for a pram), up to the top of the hill passing 22 amazing fairy tale animated windows including all the favourites like Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood etc. You'll pass boulders, water features and a pretty manicured garden. When you do reach the top, enjoy the incredible 360 views, old school rides (for a fee) and model trains. You may encounter a few steep hills but there's a hand rail and we didn't find it an issue. The grounds are extremely well kept, not a piece of rubbish in site and there's no staff anywhere on site apart from the food vans, not that they're needed as the park is pretty straight forward.

At the bottom of the hill there are picnic spots, food vendours,  a sheltered BBQ, a small shop and the icing on the cake - Camelot Playground. Never before has a playground stood out like this one. Think daring towers, a dark dungeon, a giant slide and mystical creatures. Check the website for opening times as the food van, kiosk and shop are generally only opened on weekends.

little Tips:

  • Pack a picnic
  • Take a jacket
  • Follow the path to view the fairytales first, then finish off at Camelot Playground at the bottom of the hill
  • There's a baby change area in the Womens Toilet at the bottom of the hill (close to the playground)
  • Paths are Pram-friendly
