Baby it's cool outside! This apple crumble slice is just the thing to devour when you're feeling peckish. It's the sweetest thing.
Baking with little foodie, Jessica - Apple Crumble Slice
1. Wash hands
2. Read through the whole recipe to make sure that you have all the ingredients and equipment.
3. Ask an adult to help you to preheat the oven to 160c with the fan.
The Base
- 1 cup plain flour, sifted
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup coconut
- 125 grams of melted butter
Mix flour, sugar and coconut. Add melted butter.
Line a slice pan with baking paper.
Press the base mixture into the pan and place in preheated oven.
Check after 15 minutes.
The base is ready to take out when it is lightly browned.
Ask an adult to help you take the hot base out of the oven.
Allow the base to cool.
The Filling
- 800 gram tin of apple pie filling (or make your own)
- ¾ of a cup of cream
- 2 medium size eggs
- 2 tablespoon of castor sugar
Spoon the tinned apple evenly over the cool base.
Crack the eggs into a bowl.
Add the cream and castor sugar
Mix with a folk until combined.
Spread the egg mixture over the top of the apples.
Ask an Adult to help you place the tray back in the oven for 20 minutes, or until firm.
The Topping
- ½ cup plain flour
- ½ cup silvered almonds
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 60grams butter, melted
Combine all the ingredients and sprinkle over the top of the baked slice.
Ask an adult to help you place the tray back in the oven until golden brown.
It should take about 20-25 minutes.
