The Peninsula Hot Springs which offers the only natural thermal mineral springs bathing in Australia will delight the whole family.
The public bathing area boasts 20 different bathing options for visitors of all ages, including a cave pool, reflexology walk, hamam, sauna, cold plunge pools, family pools and massaging thermal mineral showers. The owner of the Peninsula Hot Springs has travelled far and wide visiting various hot springs, so each pool is based on different concepts from around the world.
The main focal point is the lake area, where families sit on deckchairs and enjoy the sunshine.
The entire family (babies included) will enjoy a relaxing soak in the many outdoor pools of varying temperatures, including a cave pool, a reflexology walk and thermal stream gully. It's the perfect place to be on while you're on holiday on the Mornington Peninsula. Visit early and have access to all the pools (a few of the higher pools become off-limits to children later in the morning), or come at the end of the day to fully relax. Our baby loved this, even as a baby – we were careful not to let him get overheated, and there are little half-wine barrels specially for tiny ones –and he slept so well after a morning spent here. Our other 2 older kids enjoyed hanging out in the cave pool and we all left feeling rejuvenated and very refreshed – it's not often the whole family gets to enjoy a 'spa' experience together!
As we found out prams/strollers are not welcome at the springs. Don't do what we did and park ages away, bring the pram to the entrance and be told to return the pram to the car. I'm not sure what newborn/very young babies are meant to do but the 'no pram' policy was quite clearly, very much in place. Also, babies must be in aqua nappies - no exception. If you follow these rules you'll be set to enjoy the day.
As for the water temperature I actually preferred it really hot whereas the kids didn't care too much. Pool temps vary from 37 to 43C and some pools are kept cooler in summer.
There are plenty of change rooms available and an on-site Spa Dreaming Centre Cafe.
It's not a cheap outing by any means but you can stay as long as you like. We stayed for about 3 hours.
