Out of Town
This page is our growing archive of favourite trips out of the city that we've taken with our little one's.
We love jumping in the car and exploring new hot spots on the occassional weekend when we're not out and about in Melbourne checking out the latest Kid-friendly activity or event!
We've got a puzzle - or four - for you. Larger-than-life hedge mazes offer families the challenge of finding their way through winding paths. Here are four of Victoria's most popular Mazes.
Note that most mazes are not stroller friendly, so if you’re bringing your baby, consider a backpack, baby bjorn or ergo carrier.
Are you or your kids adventurers? Daredevils? Risk-takers? This is the place for you!
Trees Adventure in the Dandenong Ranges will have you climbing through tall gum trees, shooting along in flying foxes. There are five courses available, varying in age and ability, and kids from the age of five are welcome to participate.
Come and be daring – in a safe and secure environment – to prove to yourself that you can literally reach the treetops.
Inspired by the Swedish tradition of celebrating winter, Walhalla's Vinter Ljusfest (winter light festival) is a treat for the senses. With lights, images and sound, the usually pitch-dark town is lit up – and visitors are loving it.
To enjoy the Vinter Ljusfest to the fullest, experience the night train, wander through the town, watch the historic images on the band rotunda, head down the old goldmine for a special night tour. If you're feeling especially brave, you can also take the town's ghost tour!
This gorgeous town is the perfect stop for lunch, shopping and indulgence.
There's a reason Yarragon is known as 'the browser's delight': wander the main street and shop for local produce, antiques, delicious lollies, and enjoy a lazy lunch at a café or the delicious bakery.
Things to do around town include bushwalking, winery visits, a trip to the summit of Mt Baw Baw or historic Walhalla.
This is an outing that dads will be keen on!
Grand Ridge Brewery has won multiple awards for its range of beers, which they put down to the purity of their processes. There is also a beautiful restaurant at the brewery, making it an enjoyable spot for the rest of the family, too.
Brewery tours are available by appointment, and accommodation is also provided opposite the brewery.
