Working at the car wash (oh oh, yeah yeah)
At the car wash, yeah (ooh, yeah yeah)
At the car wash (sing it with me now)
Working at the car wash, yeah....
What's neon pink and smack bang in the garden at the NGV International and all ready for play? Bring your cars kids - we see a lot of spring and summer days spent here!
The concept for the pavilion was inspired by the suburban carwash, more specifically, an existing car wash in Blackburn, which lends its form to the pavilion. Tony Ellwood, director of the NGV, described the pavilion as a “dreamlike interpretation of the suburban car wash.”
The pavilion is made of steel frames and consists of five bays. In one of the bays, red ropes are fixed between the ceiling and floor. In the adjacent bay, red plastic strips hang from the ceiling, reminiscent of the plastic curtains that hang at the doors of your suburban milk bar and fish and chip shop. Neon pink astroturf with white markings lines the floor indicating lanes. Sounds fun, hey?!! There's space for rolling, sliding and even running through the mist.
Apart from being visually appealling, it's fully accessible for kids and families. A space to hang out on sunny days, weekends and school holidays. So jump in your car (!!) and go for a ride.
