Museums and Galleries Kids Activities Melbourne
There's a brand new kids space thats opened up at the NGV International and just in time for those cooler months when you need a welcome escape from the cold or those Melbourne rainy days. Two very different wooden treehouses will bring out a little creative flair in your children.
Uneasy Seasons reflects leading Australian artist Fiona Hall’s lifelong passion for the natural world and her concerns about growing pressures on the environment. Nestled beneath large treehouses are two contrasting spaces – one for children and one for teenagers – in which to contemplate environmental issues and take part in making activities. The space for children is a brightly lit environment that signals new beginnings. The dark, forest-like environment for teenagers is a night-time space in which to contemplate the vastness of the universe. Participants are invited to respond to the space with their own thoughts about the world.
Although one treehouse is for children and the other for teens, your kids are welcome to create at both though the teens treehouse is a little 'dark' and gloomy. At the kids treehouse 'Who Lives Here?' you can make your own creature - be it a spider, lizard, frog, mouse, snail, crab...etc then add it to the habitat and create a story. There's some fun story boxes along the wall that tell the story of different species that live on planet Earth. At the teens treehouse 'Send a Message' you'll make an emoji to communicate how we feel or use different paper and materials to express your thoughts in the current world we live in.
This activity best suits ages 3+ as it may not hold a younger child's attention plus there's scissors involved!
