Kid Friendly Cafes
Once upon a time, you could enjoy a leisurely latte and read the newspaper in peace at your local cafe or enjoy a restaurant spulge whenever you felt like it without worrying about pram access or the proximity to the nearest changing table.
But these days you can’t remember the last meal out that didn’t come with crayons. With two children under 2.5 years, boy do we understand this! We scour the 'Kid-Friendly', 'Family Friendly' and Grown-up Melbourne dining scene to uncover tasty spots that really are kid-friendly and foodie worthy, then bring you our favourites. We're not reviewers by any means but we do love Melbourne's cool cafe scene and eat out a lot so I think it's only natural that we share a few of them with you - we really are spoilt for choice in Melbourne.
Sprinkled throughout the cafe and restaurant 'reviews' are tips for dining out with mini royalty, like beat the dinner rush with a late-afternoon seating at one of our fav's and locals, Mr. Wolf.
We're interested in eating where children are welcome and where us adults actually WANT to go. If there’s a kid’s menu, great. If not, we’ll work with what they've got.
So we bring you our family’s experiences eating out in Melbourne! Let the fun begin......
In an area that severely lacks a family-friendly cafe, The Market House on Hawthorn Road has opened its back room to accomodate families. With Caulfield Park a short walk away, it's just what the area has been waiting for!
At the front of the cafe is a busy eatery serving the locals but you'll just need to dart to the back of the cafe as there's a whole room of seating, play equipment and a floor to ceiling chalkboard! Take your pick from a toddler sized basketball hoop, mini slide, more toys or the books and chalkboard and Mamas (or Papas) you might just get to finish your hot cup of coffee!
It's Oktoberfest all year round at South Wharfs Munich Brauhaus. If you've got a hankering for a Crafty Bavarian or some German foodie offerings and you've got to please the whole family, this place is a super choice. It's a lively venue and a one of a kind experience, bringing a true Bavarian party atmosphere that isn’t replicated anywhere else AND they've dedicated Sunday to Sunday Family Funday.
The German menu boasts everything from chicken schnitzel burgers, a tasty kids menu, sauerkraut hot dogs to all sorts of roasted pork offerings, plus live Bavarian bands taking care of the beats. Wait staff are quick and attentive - a must with kids! When you're done feasting with the family, the kids can sneak off to the games room leaving you to enjoy a few more beers and Haus made’ pretzels. Cheers to that!
