104286547591609057 LFjPlGR5 fWhat in the world should we do today? Bet you've heard that before!

Traveling as a family definitely has its complications, but nothing is as sure to build family memories as the trips you take together. From dense bushland to windswept beaches, Mornington Peninsula is a great add-on to a seaside holiday. And there's no shortage of lookouts marking the best views. If it's food you're after and it's time to fuel up, we've covered 'Eats...or Treats' as well including our very much loved Montalto Vineyard (We're regulars!).

WHERE TO HEAD

ASHCOMBE MAZE AND LAVENDER GARDENS

Winter flowering Hellebores (Winter Rose), Camellias, and Rhododendrons add a splash of crimson and pink to the gardens with some Bluebelles thrown in and you've got a beautiful setting under the old woodland trees. Combine this with Australia's oldest and most famous traditional Hedge Maze and you're all set for a magical family day out of the City.

THE ENCHANTED MAZE GARDEN

The Enchanted Maze will unveil a Giant Snowdome to celebrate the start of our Winter holiday program. Filled with thousands of white foam snow balls, the over-sized dome can be seen outside the entrance to the Maze and makes great winter display. Inside the park, there's an exciting list of indoor and outdoor activities. Rug up and take a ride on one of four 150m long Tube Slides or warm the hearts with shop-made buttery fudge from the winter-themed Amazing Lolly Shop. Escape the chill with the eerie, indoor 3D Maze complete with 3D glasses and wild UV-spray paint or take cover under 3 winter picnic marquees.

BORNEO MAZE AND MINI GOLF

Boneo Maze & Mini Golf is an outstanding entertainment and eco-tourism complex situation on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria Australia. It is a ten year dream, built entirely by the owners Rod and Zelma Wright and family, designed to give all who visit an environmental experience and a lot of pleasant memories to take away.

Our garden is the showpiece of the complex and is completely fenced to enable families to enjoy family picnics, and play a variety of games, which include chess, draughts, snakes and ladders, noughts and crosses, connect four and many other lawn games.

And we don't expect you to go totally wild; there are lots of picnic tables and a pretty little tearoom serving Devonshire tea and great coffee.

PENINSULA HOT SPRINGS

Your journey to relaxation starts here. Peninsula Hot Springs is the first natural hot springs and day spa centre in Victoria, just 90 minutes from Melbourne. Natural thermal mineral waters flow into the pools and private baths at this award-winning coastal oasis, providing the idyllic setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.

McCLELLAND GALLERY & SCULPTURE PARK

If you want the kids to burn off some energy then let them loose around the sculpture park in a super Australian bush setting. It's a top place for a picnic and they have good wheelchair access. They often offer School Holiday Activities and the cafe is pretty reasonable - Open Tuesday - Sunday from 10am - 4.30pm. Entry is by way of gold coin. Want more? Check out our kid-tested review.

EATS

SOMERS GENERAL STORE

Not only is it child friendly but Somers General Store is dog friendly too. A seaside gem, this lovingly restored 1927 building is owned and run by local glass artist Leisa Wharington.

Drop in for a newspaper and coffee or make a day of it with breakfast, a walk on the beach followed by a long lunch. Bring your children, your sandy feet and, most importantly, your appetite. There's even a play area and a gelati van!

STILLWATER AT CRITTENDEN

This is fine dining at its best (but don't let that put you off)! Family friendly with laidback sophistication, Stillwater prides itself on making every guest welcome in this unique and special setting on the Mornington Peninsula. There's activities galore for kids; cricket, bocce and football to name just a few, a big grassy area to play on and a kids menu. Bliss. 25% of the fruit and veggies are grown in their very own organic and biodynamic kitchen gardens.

THE BATHS SORRENTO

The Baths is a totally relaxed restaurant located on the beach in Sorrento with breathtaking views stretching across Port Phillip Bay. Cosy in near the wood fire in Winter or you can takeaway from the Fish and Chippery (perfect for eating it on the beach on a cool Summer's evening). There's a kids menu on offer, it's pretty relaxed and there's a brilliant view of Port Phillip Bay.

MONTALTO VINEYARD & OLIVE GROVE

The Piazza and Garden Café offers a casual, al fresco dining experience. Drop in and grab a table overlooking the breathtaking views – either in the rammed earth sheltered courtyard or amongst the lush kitchen gardens. Kids can run amongst the veggie patch and olive trees, admire the vintage red car or hunt down the sculptures.
