M.A.D.E - Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka is a must do stop off when you're in Ballarat. If M.A.D.E doesn't lure the kids in first, the playground sure will!
(M.A.D.E) is located on the site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade in Ballarat, and is home to the Eureka Flag. It's a very compact yet inciteful exhibition with many engaging displays (great for the kids), it's very well presented with a global perspective of local events.
While you're roaming and taking it all in the kids can make their own flag and place it on the pictureboard. There's also a really fun and engaging School Holiday program happening every holidays.
The cafe, Saltbush Kitchen, is a must to stop the hunger and it's delicious in every sense of the word. Food is prepared on site using Australian native ingredients. Kick back with the kids on a beanbag in the open of the outdoors. On entry/exit there's a gift shop packed with all sorts of souveniers.
When you're done brushing up on local knowledge and you've got kids in tow, it's time for play and the fort style playground will have them asking question after question when they're pondering the wooden soldiers and Eureka flag! We'll let our photos do the talking!
