The Tuki Retreat Trout Farm is the whole package - fishing, pretty surroundings, good food, farm animals and it's very peaceful, making it an ideal day trip from Melbourne.
The farm is situated in Smeaton, pay attention to the road signs and eventually you'll drive up a dirt road and arrive at this family-run business.
The farm supplies the rods (or you can bring your own) and bait. It takes about 5 minutes to catch a fish and you must keep what you catch. There's a few different ponds on the farm, all with different degrees of difficulty. Being first timers (note: not having a clue how to fish) we opted with the beginners pond. Naturally. We didn't have to wait long when our little man had caught his first ever rainbow trout. All up, 3 fish were caught and bought indoors to be cleaned and served up and cooked to perfection or taken away.
